Out With The Old, In With The New

Sad news about our proposed "Grease" show.  The American rights owners have withdrawn their permission for any of the songs to be used, so we can't do it.  So – forget that.  We now go to our next show………….

AN EVENING OF FUN AND FRIVOLITY WITH BILL SHAKESPEAREWHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT IT?  He died in 1616 so this will be the 400th anniversary of his death.

We will perform a one-act play, "A Merry Regiment of Women", the odd soliloquy or two and songs from the various shows and films with Shakespeare connotations.  So, something for singers and actors alike.  Danny Sparkes will be director, Lance Jones the Musical Director.

They will hold a read through/audition evening at Addlestone Community Centre, Mitchell Hall on Thursday 23rd June 7.30 p.m. onwards.  Do come along and find out more about it, just remember "all the world's a stage" and it may be time to "brush up your Shakespeare".

The performance dates will be Friday and Saturday 23rd and 24th September.

Buttercup the Cow

I recently loaned some of the costumes I have in Wardrobe at ACT to a local primary school, for their end of term production.  I would like to share with you the letter I have just received.

When the cow is with us she is called Buttercup but her name was changed to Marigold for this production, perhaps that accounts for the surprised look on her face.

Vacancy for ACT Business Manager

Unfortunately our current Business Manager, Reem Ghannam, is unable to continue in the post for personal reasons.  We are therefore looking for someone to take over from Reem.

The job involves becoming a member of the ACT Committee and attending meetings when necessary, mainly leading up to and just following each show.

Our Business Manager is responsible for obtaining licenses, buying scripts, getting Council permission to erect banners, finding staff for front of house and back stage.  Anyone who takes on this job will be briefed on the requirements and given all the help they need.

If you would like to become part of our Production Team and take on this important role, please contact me on 01932 225441 or bettypercey45@gmail.com

Pantomime Update

The first audition will be on Thursday 27th from 7.30pm. There will be a Bond rehearsal going on alongside and anyone involved with that rehearsal can come to the pantomime rehearsal as and when not required by Lance & Karen.

Hansel & Gretel is not one of the usual pantomimes but is all the better for that. The characters are as follows:

The Forest Fairy
Attrocia the Witch
Karl, a young forester (Principal Boy)
Dame Do-Good
Sir Rupert de Rottweiler, mayor of Pumpernickel
Lucy Locket, the Mayor's Kitchen-Maid (Principal Girl)
Hansel & Gretel, the dame's grandchildren
Potz & Panz, the mayor's bailiffs
Dickie Dimwit, the Dame's beau
Melindra, the Gypsy Queen
Roderigo, a gypsy.

Chorus of Villagers, Fairies, Gingerbread Men, Mice, Servants, Gypsies etc.

The two stand-out roles are the Forest Fairy & Attrocia as there is quite a lot of rhyming dialogue between them.

Melindra and Roderigo are small roles and whoever plays them will also be in the chorus.

If you were in Old King Cole you do not necessarily have to audition, just let me know if you want to be in H&G and the role/s you are interested in, I obviously know your ability from the previous production. I would also hope that if you are unsuccessful in getting a principal role you will still take part in the chorus. With Old King Cole the only disappointing element was the small number of adult chorus members and I hope that this can be rectified this time around.

I am a pantomime traditionalist and would hope to return this time around to the Principal Boy being played by a female.

I intend to double up the roles of H&G each child playing three performances.

I am not yet sure of rehearsal dates and apart from Wednesday's being a no-go area for me, I would rather ensure the use of the most convenient evenings for cast members, so please advise me of your preferred evenings when you audition plus telling me of any dates that you already know you cannot do. Rehearsal will begin during the week commencing Monday 26th October.

Please let me know if you are unable to make the 27th September but wish to audition and I will make alternative arrangements for you.

Regards

Tony Bushell

Bond And Fosse

Dave Bond

This was Dave auditioning for James Bond. In fact - this was what gave birth to the idea of our Bond And Fosse show

A Musical Genie

This was our MD about half his life ago (and half the size!) when he appeared as the Genie in Aladdin. He only got the part because he could click his fingers the loudest! The lovely Serena Hughes was on make up. Circa 1992

If you have any old pictures you are happy to share, email them to archive@addlestone-community-theatre.org.uk
